The Reactor Materials Testing Laboratory (RMTL), in collaboration with team members supported by the Canada Excellence Research Chair (CERC) program on the Impact of Radiation in Energy and Advanced Technologies, proudly participated in Science Rendezvous Kingston on May 10 at the Slush Puppie Place.

Exhibiting for the first time this year, RMTL and CERC volunteers engaged with the local community, highlighting the marvels of nuclear energy through interactive activities and experiments designed for multiple age groups. Throughout the day, families, children, and individuals actively participated at the RMTL booth, engaging in a sensory 3D atom model-building activity, exploring concepts of corrosion and heat transfer, observing particle interactions via a cloud chamber experiment, and learning how a nuclear power plant works.

Thank you to everyone who visited our booth!

One of RMTL's student volunteers, Zeyuan Ji (James), played a pivotal role in welcoming both adults and children to the RMTL booth. James shared reflecting on his volunteer experience, "The Science Rendezvous was a memorable experience for me-- being able to meet both the older generation and younger generation... the entire experience left me with the impression that our work in the nuclear materials group inspires others to learn more about nuclear energy."

Science Rendezvous Kingston is a free, annual science festival for Southeastern Ontario families hosted by Queen's University. More information can be found here.
